Mobile and Mobile Web Design
Award winning Mobile Web Design - RAD Awards 2012
Recent stats show that mobile and tablet browsing makes up nearly 20% of all web traffic.
So nearly 20% of all traffic now comes from something that’s not a desktop PC – that could be an internet enabled phone, a smart phone, a TV, an e-reader or a games console to name a few. It’s now being accessed by a ‘device’ and as you can imagine there are a lot of them. Suddenly web design changes…forever.
For your site to be accessed by a ‘device’, your website needs to be shrunk to the appropriate screen size which can make your site look horrid. If you have flash or other scripts going on, it may not show correctly. Some videos won’t play and some links won’t work. Navigating around the site is a nightmare. It might be really really slow as a 3G connection tries in vain to download that beautiful high res image on your home page. And as a result… watch your bounce rate soar!
Remember approximately 20% of your traffic could be experiencing this!
Not all devices are the same, different sizes, different navigation, different software and different speeds for starters. You need to adapt your site to each device, not just assume they’re all the same (which is what a lot of people do). We do this by using data from thousands of smart phones and devices and altering what is shown based on the device. So we can address all those issues to ensure a pleasant experience no matter which device the user accesses from. Everything is the right size, works with the navigation on the device, shows the right images, and it’s speedy.
As well as developing the code to recognise how the site is being viewed, we can display different content too. For example, we can put directions to your company on the mobile home page for those who are lost and looking up your postcode, quick links to your products for those who are comparing prices in a shop, a one click telephone number for those who just want to call. We can even show iPhone users different content from HTC users if we wanted to for example.
Your mobile website should be considered as an additional project to your new website, it’s not something that should be tagged on at the end.
Whether you’re looking for a full redesign of a website to include mobile or simply a mobile version of your current site, we have the experience, knowledge and creatively to make your mobile website work for you and your users.
